Welcome to the Nature Finance Impact Hub

In its latest State of Finance for Nature Report the UN Environment Programme estimated that investments in nature-based solutions need to triple by 2030 and to increase four-fold by 2050. This will largely need to come from a significant increase in private sector investment, which opens up new opportunities for investors, landowners and environmental stakeholders.

However, more information is needed to help to build confidence and business cases. In particular, through our work in this field and via conversations with lots of different people we noticed the lack of consistent quantitative data about the financial and environmental impact of projects.

That’s where the Impact Hub fits in – to showcase comparable data to help those running and evaluating projects as well as to support the design of future projects. We hope that this will accelerate the range of projects coming through so that green finance markets can begin to work at a larger scale. The Hub draws from project data provided to us or that is already held in the public domain. This includes some of the latest case studies from the Green Finance Institute’s Hive. We review and curate the data, but it is subject to any limitations and uncertainties associated with its original source.

The Impact Hub incorporates projects ‘under development’, highlighting those created using funds available through a range of grant schemes (e.g. DEFRA’s Natural Environment Investment Readiness Fund). These projects are exploring how to achieve investment readiness, referring to the Green Finance Institute’s toolkit to explore buyer and investor marketplaces for their environmental ambitions. Whilst the projects aren’t live, they provide an indication of the accelerating rate at which these projects are coming to market.

We hope that the number of projects, quality of data and range of metrics will continue to improve as nature-positive green finance goes from strength to strength. We are committed to supporting this in the best way that we can, and we are on a mission to make this data more readily accessible and in one place. If you would like to submit a new project to the hub, please fill out the data submission form here.
